Finish packing the night before
The most common reason a move runs long is packing that is still happening while the crew is loading. Cartons should be closed, taped and stacked before the truck arrives.
Label by destination, not origin
Write the room the carton is going to at the new address. It means cartons are placed once instead of moved twice, and it saves you a weekend of shuffling.
Clear the path
- Move cars off the driveway and reserve the closest kerb space you can.
- Prop or remove screen doors where practical.
- Roll up loose rugs and clear the hallway.
- Keep children and pets in a room that is already emptied, or off site.
Make decisions before the day
Deciding on the day what is going, what is being donated and where the sofa will sit is what stretches a move out. Have those answers ready, and mark anything that is staying with tape or a sticky note so nothing is loaded by mistake.
Keep one person as the point of contact
One person who can answer questions, direct furniture placement and do the final walkthrough keeps the crew moving. Conflicting instructions from several people is a genuine time cost.
