Mattress & Bed Pickup in Brisbane and the Gold Coast

One mattress, a bed base or a bedroom move: work out the right service, access details and quote before arranging collection.

Moving a mattress or getting rid of it?

A mattress pickup can mean two different jobs. You may need a usable mattress delivered to another home, collected from a seller or moved into storage. Or you may want an unwanted mattress taken away for disposal. Say which outcome you need first: the crew, destination and total price depend on it.

1300 On The Move welcomes mattress, bed-base and small-furniture transport enquiries in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Give both suburbs and your preferred date so we can confirm the route, suitable crew and availability. For disposal, choose Rubbish Removal on the quote form; accepted items, local operator availability and disposal charges must be confirmed separately.

Describe every part of the bed

  • List the mattress size and quantity, plus any ensemble base, frame, headboard, slats or bedside furniture. A queen mattress and a queen ensemble base are separate items.
  • Give actual dimensions where possible. Tell us whether the base is one piece or split, and whether the frame is assembled. Mention an adjustable base or unusually heavy components.
  • Tell us whether dismantling and reassembly are required. Do not assume they are included in a mattress-only quote.
  • Have clear photos available of the bed and any tight access. Mention damage, dampness or other condition issues before collection so suitability can be assessed.

Check more than the driving distance

A short trip still involves carrying and loading at two properties. Stairs, awkward landings, narrow doorways, long paths and limited parking can matter more than the kilometres. Include the destination room and floor, rather than assuming delivery means placement inside a bedroom.

For a coastal apartment, check lift-door dimensions, lift bookings and loading arrangements with the building manager. A rigid bed base may need a different access plan from a mattress. For a high-set Brisbane home, explain the external stairs and any turns on the verandah. Do not force an item around a tight corner or assume a mattress can be folded.

Plan apartment lifts, access and parking

Prepare for collection

  • Remove bedding and empty storage drawers. Keep the mattress dry and ask what clean protective covering will be used; do not seal a damp mattress for storage.
  • Follow the manufacturer's handling instructions. Do not roll, fold or vacuum-pack a mattress unless its manufacturer allows it.
  • If dismantling the frame yourself, photograph the assembly and bag and label the fixings. Agree who handles any parts that need special tools.
  • Clear the agreed carrying route and keep children and pets away from loading. Arrange suitable movers rather than relying on an unconfirmed seller or neighbour to lift.
  • For a second-hand purchase, confirm the seller's collection window and arrange the furniture payment separately. Wait for transport confirmation before committing to a time.

Ask for the complete pickup and delivery price

Ask the team to confirm the number of movers, vehicle, loading and unloading, protection, destination-room placement and any dismantling or reassembly. Check the total including applicable GST, travel, tolls, minimum charges and agreed extras. An advertised task budget or a short drive does not establish the price for your access and item.

Quotes are free with 1300 On The Move. There is no fee to accept your quote, book your job or connect with us; you pay for the agreed service. A quote request does not reserve a crew or collection time. Same-day enquiries can be discussed, with availability confirmed before booking.

What to check when comparing removalist quotes

Send a simple mattress-move brief

Please quote to move [mattress size and quantity] plus [base, frame or other items] from [pickup suburb and state] to [delivery suburb and state]. My preferred date is [date or flexible range]. Pickup access is [stairs, lift, parking and carry distance], and delivery access is [details]. I need [any dismantling, reassembly or room placement]. Please confirm availability, what is included and the total price.

If you need disposal instead, say that clearly, list all unwanted items and describe their condition and access. Ask whether disposal charges are included. Do not arrange kerbside placement, donation or recycling without confirmation from the relevant receiving service.
